The two most dangerous words in any human language are, "...What if?"

Timelines are malleable. "What if" we learned from our mistakes what if there was a small change that became a great change. So I set my dark matter pocket watch for a jump.
Brownsville Brooklyn NYC May 26, 2102~2:53pm
I appeared in an alley. There was...snow. The climate had become more chaotic. The street. Ruined abandoned. The buildings were pocked with military grade jagged bullet holes. The area had been violently cleared. There was something hovering next to my ear. A drone the size of a fly said, "...Freeze!" The traditional militia announcement that you are about to die. My body was covered with multiple red, and amber laser spots. I shifted. ...not all futures are good.

October 22nd, 1148, CE 5:36pm.

I set my dark matter pocket watch. I portaled to what would one day be Virginia. I came to watch a sunset. Quiet. I could hear the faintest breeze whistle in my ears. The buzz of every insect the step of every living thing near me. I sat and witnessed a pre-industrial evening.
The sky empty of men was already filling with bright stars. I scented the aroma of the ocean half a hundred miles away. If not for bears, I would have slept the night. There and back again.
West 28th Street Manhattan...current time. Smears of neon. Noise. Chaos.
I went to a Chinese take-out had dumplings, and tea.

Days and days and days.

I set my dark matter pocket watch. Central Park. October 10th 1956~CE. There’s peace in this time in these few acres. The climate not yet visibly changed. A chill in the air. In this when gents in fedora’s women in skirts children in cowboy outfits. I remember I had one too. All here enjoy the peace of not knowing what’s coming, and little of what’s happened. I sat on a bench dressed for 2022. Yet as always in New York getting no notice. I slept.

I walk, my hands clasped in remote peacefulness.

Close my eyes to dreams in progress.

Open them to blurs.

Comings. Leavings.

Even these are faint notions.
