Good news from Chile where a young left wing leader has won the election! One by one Central and Latin America is freeing itself from the domination of the USA.
I try not to think in cold war terms. Left or right they're full of shit. I was in the left most of my adult life. I saw it slowly embrace authoritarian elements. Working at the radio station I saw it front row center. As these sorts shuffled through regularly.
Spouting Jew Hate endorsing African dictators. Harboring ugly misogyny homophobic ideas and assorted race cultural nationalisms. It was one of that sort that scrapped with a knife "Queer" on my locker. Management...of the same mindset, did nothing.
Granted whoever those guys in Chile may be. They might be better than Mobutu Pinochet or Fidel. I'm old enough to remember the 1973 Nazi/CIA coup. Almost anything would be better. ...almost.
My gage for any country's rationality is can someone like me live there. Can I live there peacefully as a Black BL Queer artist publisher writer? Looking around...well.
Most places if I was lucky, I'd get prison. In the assorted chaotic left or right hellholes around the world. I'd be murdered by mobs or executed by the government. By the grand irony of history Brooklyn seems so far, my best bet.
