A new study released today from Columbia University says the omicron variant of COVID-19 is proving to be "markedly resistant" to vaccines.

"A striking feature of this variant is the large number of spike mutations 31 that pose a threat to the efficacy of current COVID-19 vaccines and antibody therapies. Extensive spike mutations raise the specter that current vaccines and therapeutic antibodies would be greatly compromised."

The study also warned about what may come next.

“It is not too far-fetched to think that this [COVID-19] is now only a mutation or two away from being pan-resistant to current antibodies,” the study said. “We must devise strategies that anticipate the evolutional direction of the virus and develop agents that target better conserved viral elements.”

Above my last visit a about a month ago to my Medical Hub. The place I read is now once more a COVID soup. We might be in an end of the bleeping world movie after all. It looks like no matter what we do more will be infected. Oh, for fucks sakes.

In response I went out to my old Chinese takeout now reopened after the hell of 2020. They tell me they may have to close again. June the owner, and old pal sez her staff is vaxed. However, she wants to be cautious. So this may be my last chance to chow on curry chicken, and eggrolls.

Btw there was another takeout a few blocks away that didn't make it. Never re-opened. It was there since WW2. My Ma used to take me there for lunch. It was a sit-down place then. Later in the 70's it went takeout only. Now gone. Part of our commercial strip is still closed. A few survivors, and a few new shops. However, the street is still in recovery. This new round may blow it to pieces for good.
