See above,…this is sad.
Queer communities are separating. Covertly some by class, and race. They have different agendas. Cutting ties with other groups of Queer people.
Tribalism. That’s what we called it back in the post Stonewall times when I was first politically active. That was the danger. We needed to be united back then for just the right to be alive. It’s forgotten that was actually an issue. People were saying we should be killed.
We knew our community might break up. Lesbians were already in the early 70’s not comfortable being with gay men. There were also strains of racism against persons of color, I personally experienced this. That, and gender hostilities against Trans folks.
Our community was fragile then. I remember this. It happened it was real. The rainbow flag when it first came was a good, and effective unifying emblem. However years later as our lives were not as directly threatened. There’s still danger, but it’s different now. So we’re in an era separating identities.
We’re breaking up, and the flag is breaking with us.
