I sat on my fire~escape this afternoon reading the New Yorker.
Bright sun fresh breezes. Industry is sleeping as the air is fresh...I even sensed the ocean just a few miles away. Normally it might as well be hundreds.

Anyway in the upper middle class comic book the "New Yorker". Loads of stuff about how the gallery crowd is getting by. Ordering out to upscale eateries, and such. That, and tales of boredom as they while away the Pandemic at their summer places.

Btw I view leaving as desertion in the face of the enemy.

Reading on there was even,...and I was surprised. Even a piece on how this thing the Virus will decimate the country's homeless.

It may well. I see them all the time as do you.
They have no masks because they have no money. They can't shelter in place because they have no homes. The city shelters like prisons or Navy ships are hot spots of infection so most stay away.

I so fear for these innocent people.

So far the Navy has lost two carriers, and re-supply ship to the Virus. If this were war so many major losses so fast would be a disaster. Then again this 'is' war.

I saw more Army choppers going by. Big Chinooks. That, and some C-130's. Cargo haulers. These all headed to JFK. There's no commercial traffic...none that I've seen. Just military stuff. Fine by me. Maybe trains will come back after this. I love trains.

I think I mentioned seeing our blessed EMT folks removing bodies from homes. My 'Hood is a hot spot. The whole of the Emerald City is, but some areas worse than others. Queens was the first serious red area now Brooklyn seems to have the crown. It moves around.

700 to 800 people are perishing in the Emerald City a day now.

They say it will level off. There that lag time from infection to going critical to hospital to death. That, and all the COVID deaths may not be getting counted. Those dying at home are perishing of other causes made worse by the Virus so are technically in another group.

Even in death there's bullshit.

An NPR wonk said that one should add 5 to 8% to the City's body count because of this. As disaster movies I have to say this is really badly written. It's so routine. No monsters no Alien war machines.
Just the bureaucracy of death. That, and demented politicians getting face time on every screen to look good.

In the case of our head of state it just makes him look like the demented ignorant selfish evil shit eating baby cager he is. Others come off a bit better. The Northeast regional governors look okay. Especially what's his name in New York.

Me I'm just sitting here.

I'm not building that Russian cathedral model after all. I have a Ukrainian friend that lost his home, and most of his family to the Russians when they invaded, and stole the whole eastern part of his country. He emailed me about it. He was distraught.

He said the Russian Orthodox Church was behind a lot of the atrocities going on where he used to live. Oh crap,...so I took down the post. This world is so evil, and full of shit. I should have thought of all that before slapping that stuff all over this page.

We had a back, and forth.
I felt so bad about it all. I hate these times. It's like the 1930's again. Only in this round there's no America coming to rescue anyone.

As I say I'm just sitting here.
Fran Leibowitz sez in that New Yorker that she has a special kind of sadness seeing the City she loves like this.

Sez she,...

"New York is quiet.

It's like a meadow.

A Meadow without flowers trees or restaurants."

  1. Maybe you can have your cake and eat it too: build the cathedral, then burn it and post the video. That might please your friend, and I wouldn't blame him. It figures that the ROC would be behind a bunch of atrocities.

  2. Good idea...burn the thing as an act of justice art.

I am a bit sad I won't build it...it is beautiful. Like much religious art there much beauty to it. However the faith itself tends to be murderous.
