I'm surprised how few have come to this conclusion. 

The cultural parallels between the Internet, and the fictional Krell thought machine. This from the film Forbidden Planet.

In both cases a whole world had access to a tech that can cross any border give any information real or imagined. At any time to anyone in any shape or manner.

The only different is the 'Net is still just information. 

We have to act on it,...and to our sorrow we are.

The Krell took it further.

They could make not just information, but matter appear anywhere any time for any purpose.

Which was their doom.
