"Ka-Boom"
I'm very tired somewhat ill pissed off, and generally suicidal. Nothing new. It's just things are bad. They've always been, but still. You know how now, and then something fucked up gets stuck in your head. A really bad song or like that.
Lately the fact that our current head of state didn't know , and still doesn't accept that Hawaii, and Puerto Rico are part of the United States, and he also has no concept of the constitutional separation of powers. The Executive Legislative, and Judicial being co-equal branches of our government.
All that stuff we learned when we were five years old.
He considers the 'Executive' as the beginning, and end of the law. He thinks he's an emperor. This besides his being a semi-literate disturbed bigoted demagogue.
Well all that is stuck in my head, and won't leave.
Normally Life is life, and one just tries to get by.
That the murderous mayhem around us sometimes leaks in is,...disconcerting. Imagine there's this big comet headed our way to wipe us the fuck out finally. It won't be here for a few years so we sometimes forget. We just go on with our doomed boring lives.
Right now I'm reminded of the Comet.

Hey... just the other day I read about this comet that nobody knew about that came pretty close to us. It reminds me how much of the unexpected has to do with things. We think we are in control and that is total illusion, or that superstition that "reason" will save us. OMG! Spare me!
ReplyDeleteWell as is generally understood, "...We're fucked".
ReplyDeleteThe asteroid that nearly hit us a couple of days ago was coming from the direction of the sun, so astronomers didn't spot it until a few days in before it passed us. Also, it came within 45,000 miles of the earth, much closer than the moon. It was estimated to be roughly three hundred feet in diameter, so a direct impact would have caused major damage. This according to a newsletter I get.
ReplyDeleteBasically as I read a 5 to 8 megaton nuke's worth of damage.
ReplyDeleteAny major city would be obliterated. If in the ocean a tsunami with a near 100 foot storm surge that would go many tens of miles inland.
If it hit say off Long Island/NYC the surge would have gone all the way to Albany in the north to near Pittsburg in the west, and D.C. in the south.
NYC the surrounding counties would be submerged.
This under 75+ feet of storm surge. Those in tall buildings or in homes...like me on natural rises will make it.
Those in the towns, and suburban developments would just be swept away. The very earth beneath their foundation scrapped almost to the bedrock. If they knew it was coming which they won't. Some might make it by driving to the mountains in the north....a few hours warning would save many...assuming there's no panicked gridlock.
...there 'would' be.
They won't know it's coming because we're not looking for anything seriously. It will be a bolt out of the blue as they called it during the cold war...attack without provocation or warning.
So it will be a come as you are event.
No stockpiled supplies. One would just be out, and about doing your job going to class or wandering around.
Crap I might have been out at Coney Island.
In which case I'd have seen a blue grey wall coming on the horizon. Being a science fiction fan I might figure out what was happening just as the wall of water at near the speed of sound removed me from this ridiculous life.
I'll see the speeding wall hear a growing roar. For a moment perhaps notice a greying of the sky. Then,...
We die in our millions as water slamming into us at 400+ mph smears us into walls or just disembowels on impact.
NYC suddenly under the ocean by 75 to 100 feet. The depth reducing as it went. When it get's to D.C. maybe only 30 feet at 50 mph, and so on. Casualties maybe 5 to eight millions, and multiple trillions in damage. Mind you it would drain away in a week or so, but the damage is well, and done.
This will have an effect on conversation.
The current head of state, and the incompetents he's appointed would be unable to cope. In a day or so as this became clear there'd be a military coup in everything but name. #45 would still be there reading carefully written speeches,...on recording.
Any going off script would result in broken fingers.
After a few times he'd get the message.
There'd still be an election in 2020 of sorts. The contenders pre-chosen for their ability to play ball with the new management.
