Above the only known image of B-52 serial number DH-607R995. This as it appeared over Elmendorf AFB Alaska. The aircraft as it came through a dimensional rift from an alternate timeline. One where WW3 had ignited.
The actual DH-607R995 was still on the ground at the base as this happened. The alternate B-52 did not respond to hails. It was tracked to it's target in nearby Siberia where it dropped it's bombs.
Fortunately before detonation the plane, and warheads re-entered the rift returning to their original history, and we assume war still in progress.
(...was thinking about writing some little time travel stories again. The image inspired this one.)

ReplyDeleteAfter writing this I thought of that other history. The one where B-52 DH-607R995 dropped her bombs,...and they detonated. I thought of a follow up. The number of warheads going off so quickly at the same time caused many rifts to appear all over both worlds.
ReplyDeleteSo there might be many people aircraft ships trains cars that just pass through to here or other related histories. Imagine you're driving with zillions of others from a target city then flash...you're here...no war.
That or you're a Russian Backfire bomber crew that appears off the west coast on your way to nuke the Washington state Hanford nuke power plants.
Then realize there's no war radio traffic anymore.
You contact command, and control, and they don't know how you could be there since your plane is still in it's hanger, and you are in Vladivostok on leave.
Worse,... thousands of burn victims stumble streets around the world now in a history where there were no firestorms.
All this will prove in a profoundly brutal way the Many Earths Theory. That, and what could open portals to them.
If I developed this story I might have the science Boffins figure a way of doing controlled entries to that other now toasted earth.
