As ya knows I'm a historical re-enactor fan. However timing is important. Being too close to the event portrayed can be a problem. The first Vietnam re-enactment attempts are in their way historic for their,...eh interesting outcomes.
Rule of thumb is that at least three generations is needed for historical distance. Having actual vets of the war in question around muddies the field.
So in the case of the 157 year long American Civil War you see the problem. The first portions the actual battlefield engagements are safe for re-enactment. However the latter non-uniformed battles are well,...
Problematic.
My stuff above from the first portion of the U.S. Civil War.
Jim Crow re-enactment has actually been under discussion in historical circles for over 10 or so years. Especially after Obama was elected. There was for a short time the notion that the nation had turned a critical corner.
Of course we didn't not close.
What with the Klan, and Nazis in ascendancy we're still very much in the depths of the American Civil War. So I wouldn't expect Civil Rights era re-enactments till perhaps the late 21st or early 22nd centuries.
...if then.
Pity I have just the right stuff to wear.
Exactly what I wear everyday as I am an active combatant.
