I remember it was about 648 years ago. I asked my folks to take us to Seattle. ??? To the "Seattle 1962 World's Fair". All I knew was they had the giant Space Needle, and it was the 21st Century there!
I dunno I figured time travel or something.
Anyway I wanted to go to the future,...bad.
Eh,...my Ma, and Dad said,. "..are you crazy?!! ...NO!"
I was reminded of my obsession with the 21st century.
This by the below advert, and video for the fair which was on TV 24/7 at the time.
This occurred to me as I thought of where we are now on this anniversary. This of the beginning of this current phase of the Third Hundred Years War. The first in the 15th century the Second in the 20th, and now this one.
I dream of futures we could have had.
My big dream for the future is that humanity will have a future, and that something like dignity will continue to be possible.
ReplyDeleteAny suggestions on how to get to that place are welcome.
"It's always been assumed that the evolutionary slope reaches forever upwards, but in fact the peak has already been reached, the pathway now leads downwards to the common biological grave. It's a despairing and at present unacceptable vision of the future, but it's the only one." -J. G. Ballard, "The Voices of Time", 1960
ReplyDeleteFor health reasons I may need to start ignoring the real future that is even now unfolding around us. Sadness can kill.
ReplyDeleteUnless there is a way to start being cheerful about it. Embrace decline! Be an early adapter, and welcome the fall of our civilization!

I may not be able to post very often, because hauling out this old clunker and putting it away again is a bit like hoisting and dousing a big sail. So please don't take it amiss if I'm not as often present as before. I'm still following.

That's okay...take it easy. I even have trouble just signing in,...I have this exhaustion thing sometimes. Swell. Come by when ya can. I'll be here. Right now not much to say though,...the dark shit is getting to me too.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that makes me a bit up is the poll numbers that are moving in positive directions. Yeah I'm so desperate that I'd believe that shit.
Still their admitting to being worried about not just losing the House, but the Senate too.
If this shit goes down the #45 administration is over.
Just think in two months we'll be able to sleep again. That, and worry about the rising oceans, and that damned barking dog down the block.
You notice how you can even in a city hear them fuckers barking blocks away. Fuck it'll be so good to have that as the worse thing to be pissed off about again.
You take care comrade. All you other cool kats I'm glad ya here,...fucking Vote!
