"Death Comes Again"
The Angel of Death is a common visitor to some parts of our world. His routine stops for the elderly or very young in war. War is what we have here. On the eve of the commemoration of our national inception a young man was shot dead for nothing. This yards from where I now sit.
This has happened several times in the last 18 month here. Random un-considered pointless oblivion.
We still don't know the trail of events that led this this. All that we are aware of is that death has come again. This is America now. Angry fearful armed America.
I've just come from bearing witness, and standing with my neighbors as a mother weeps hysterically cops impassively stand at the edges, and the people shift uncomfortably.
So we stand. Till next time.

"In past worlds, it was possible to lose oneself in ecstasy, which is impossible in our world of educated vulgarity. The advantages of civilization are offset by the way men profit from them: men today profit in order to become the most degraded beings that have ever existed."
ReplyDelete-Georges Bataille, "The Sacred Conspiracy"
That’s terrible.

"The world¹s turning into a madhouse, one half of society gloating righteously over the torments of the other. Most people don¹t realize which side of the bars they are." -J. G. Ballard, The Insane Ones, 1962
ReplyDeleteHave you noticed how Science Fiction writers near always get it right. About the evolution of what we are. They see who, and what we really are.
ReplyDeleteYeah they may miss some scientific detail. However they're spot on about the species.
