It was 1985 for me. Even then it was drifting away from the original ideals. It was turning into the assimilationist culture it is now.

Same general chronology for me. SOS ‘94 was a throwback, a counter-parade and protest against stroller pusher assimilation. Harry Hay was involved, among other dissidents.
ReplyDeleteBut other than that one sadly ineffectual gesture, it was all over by mid-80’s. The real gay liberation has been pushing up daisies for decades now. The death squad helps make sure there can be no reincarnation.

Harry Hay, Charles Shively, Tom Reeves, Allen Ginsberg, John Mitzel are all dead. The few remaining ones still living, I won't mention by name, but they have been, with only a few exceptions, largely silenced.
