Reminds me back before Vietnam divided us and started our cycle of culture wars. There was more of a feeling of national unity. I remember Flag Day. In most parts folks would hang the Stars and Stripes and mean it. Now it's a divisive symbol being fought over. Then it was love for your Home.
In New York City being how we are with folks from every country on Earth living here. Flag Day was just that. Unofficially it was also All Nations Day. This since the totems of every nation on da planet was hanging from windows fire-escapes cars bikes shops trees and multiple banners on flagpoles. All gleefully flapping away in the breeze together. There was root beer and hots too. Thems was the days.
