In the vintage photo from my FB friend Gary Introne. The signs…“repair umbrellas”, and “we fix fountain pens”. This was very common once. In the 20th century, and before. Little shops had add on services like these. There were seamstress , and bicycle repair services as well. The soda fountain around the corner from my boyhood home. This was also a doll hospital. Things were ‘not’ thrown away back then just because it may have needed mending. Note I don’t say broken,…nothing broke. It needed “mending”. If so a nearby shop would do it.
