"My Dad me, and the Brooklyn Dodgers"
I want to begin 2021 with a happy memory.
My father loved the Brooklyn Dodgers. When they left for the Coast he reluctantly became a Mets fan like most Dodger folks did.
I mean the idea of joining up with the Yankee's was,...well it just wasn't done. The Dodgers was da Dodgers, and that was that.
I remember Dad took me, and my now late brother John to Ebbits Field. Yeah 'that' Ebbits. Brooklyn's field of dreams.
We lived close by.
I remember being in our Crown Heights back yard...digging in the dirt playing with matchbox cars. In the distance I heard a faint roar from the fans carried on the wind. All they way down Empire Blvd. The Dodgers got a guy on first. Meanwhile inside my dad was clapping as he listened on the radio.
Our TV came a few years later along with Brownie our dog.
In Heaven the Dodgers still play for Brooklyn.
