"Telstar"
Interesting how some things just stay with you. Every year my Ma would take me to Times Square to see a major movie. This is how I saw "Mothra",...not major, but still.
All this before 42nd Street went to hell,...then came back as Disneyland East. So there we were in front of the Times Building. The lit up electric ticker telling the world Telstar was up.
It said,..."TV From Space!"
There was too.
Introduced by JFK his own self,...the first international TV via com-sat from Paris. This was on my 11th birthday in 1962. Back then such things were front page news. We were all seriously impressed. Com'on Lindberg crossing the Atlantic in a plane was kinda recent news to my folks.
As for me I wanted to be an Astronaut. Well a Fireman a Nun a Geisha, and a Cowboy too. In a way I became a kind of very remote Astronaut when I would take satellite data feeds as a radio engineer a bit later. The Nun thing didn't pan out nor the Geisha Cowboy business. Hum..."Geisha Samurai Cowboys". There's a film script in that somewhere.. Such a life I've had.
