Been ill for some days. Still weak mostly in bed. I don't think this is the COVID, but without tests no idea. Barfing has stopped, and taking soup, and some juice. Very tired a bit confused, but still have my marbles.
Bleep it I'm still here.
On the upside watching a bunch of movies in bed. Watched Tom hanks Mr. Rodgers...sweet, and just finished Powell's The Red Shoes.
Also Old Warner Bros films.
Lost Horizon, Gunga Din Casablanca. Lost my copy of the Wizard of Oz, but Mary Martin's 50's TV version of Peter Pan turned up.
You guy be good...loves ya.
I liked this movie a lot. My favorite line is when the bright young fellow who's going to take over the management of Shangri La asks the ancient sage about how to prevent Armageddon from incinerating the world, or some other imponderable like that, and the saintly monk replies sweetly: "That is no longer my problem. That is now your problem."

My reference of course was to Lost Horizon. I also like the bit on the plane where the blonde lady becomes hysterical, screaming "I can't take it any more!" and tries to beat down the cockpit door.
ReplyDeleteYou're a better man than I, Gunga Din!

I just watched it again.
ReplyDeleteA hopeful film. Especially the restored version where that "...bright fellow" sez how they evacuated 90 white people, but left 10,000 natives behind to be butched.
That, and how as Foreign Secretary he's abolish the military, and use the bucks to feed people.
Stuff like that was taken out after a few test screenings. The 1935 white racist militarist audiences seriously didn't like any of that.
The upside of being home 24/7 is that I'm watching my vast film stash. Something I've ignored for years. It just sat for near a decade in several large boxes with my old radio crap. DVD's seem to keep for years.
Sure Kipling was a racist jerk, but he had a way with words.
ReplyDeleteSo the blonde was right.
ReplyDeleteI CAN'T TAKE IT ANY MORE! AAAUUUGGGHH!
