Fr. James Martin a Jesuit priest author and speaker, shared on Facebook in summer of 2016 an icon of,...
“Our Lady of Ferguson and All Those Killed by Gun Violence.”
In the icon, Mary is depicted as a Black woman with her hands up. Where her womb would be a small black silhouette in a similar posture, but in the crosshairs of a gun.
The posture a reference to the “Hands up, don’t shoot” slogan in Ferguson, Mo., in response to police violence.
I post this to say all lives are sacred no matter whose. We are in days where the powerful openly say that the poor the elders the sick, and disabled among us are expendable.
They should be happy to die for the economy said one.
We are a culture of life at odds with a material culture of death.
In that case, the powerful also should be happy to sacrifice their lives for the personal economies of the rest of us. Perhaps some of these public benefactors could begin by offering themselves as materiel for demonstrating my freshly sharpened and gloriously gleaming Morlock Cutlery Barbecue Dinner Ware.
