As a child I began building models planes because
they were cool, and I wanted to fly.
See above.
Then I found out ya had
to kill folks up there,
and on the ground,
This was a deal breaker.

  1. St. Exupery got fly mail and go to really cool places like Timbuktu and met the super cute Little Prince (strictly speaking, a hallucination, I gather). Of course, he did disappear over the Med.

  2. Taking that one way dive in a P-38.

Wish he stayed,...we so needed him.

  3. The great Brazilian aviator Santos Dumont dreamt that air transport should never be used for warfare. He was severely disappointed, to say the least.

Around 1900 he used to fly his airship right over the rooftops of Paris. It was like a tiny one-person zeppelin. There was no regular aviation, so no laws to control it. Once he actually tied up at Maxim's and went in for lunch.

  5. Mr. Cartier also frequented Maxim's, and at the request of Santos-Dumont created the very first wrist watch.

  6. I guess it's pretty tricky to pull out a fob while you're steering your airship. It's the kind of problem I'd like to have.
