The story thus far,...France going offline Spain, and Poland just went Germany not far behind. Canada just closed it's borders,...including the one with us. The States by the number's will lock down by the end of the month,...maybe sooner. We're three weeks behind Italy.
In the Emerald City the schools were shut possibly till fall. Bars cafe's shops closing. Basically the City is going offline. Folks bunkering up.
NYS Governor Cuomo decried that lack of Federal leadership. Said there's "...chaos" throughout the country. This as each State is making it's own rules many of which conflict with the States around them.
As for the Feds,...like #45 said, "...it will disappear like a miracle."
In a cab coming home from Hospital where I finally got my meds. We listened as Cuomo said that there will be the need to build Hospitals as the Chinese did from scratch to deal with this.
The Feds have to do this via the Corps of Engineers, and civil construction companies. Them guys in China put those things up in about a month. Amazing what can be done when ya life depends on it.
My cabbie said that his family in Haiti are okay. As far as he knows it's not there yet. I'll have to look that up. More folks on the streets are wearing masks now. At a glance maybe twice as many since before this past weekend.
These coming months the balance of this year will be trying.
We'll make it. We just will.
On the upside #45, and the two surviving other old guys are like me,... in a vulnerable position. As this Virus really likes to eat old folks.
Both parties could be suddenly wide open for younger people whose politics ain't trapped in 20th century nightmares.
This thing might end the Culture Wars as most of it's cheerleaders are over 50 or elders.
Nature works in mysterious ways.

ReplyDeleteOn the bright side, this is very likely to be the end of globalism. No more offshoring. And the hammering this is dealing to Wall Street couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.
Of course, it doesn't look too good for mass migration either. Merkel's Germany is now patrolling its borders with drones. We may be looking at the end of the airline industry as we've known it, and tourism is taking a huge hit. Truly, new times are upon us.
Lockdown will not be too sore a trial to those of us with no jobs who can hardly ever afford to go out for sporting or entertainment purposes anyway - provided, of course, that basic necessities remain accessible.
I doubt we have the resources to suddenly build quarantine facilities on anything like the scale the Chinese did, or the competence for that matter. So we'd best keep this thing from overwhelming our existing facilities, if we can.

After what I saw at the hospital today things are worse than the City is letting on. Sections were sealed off with yellow Bio-hazard tape.
Bright orange signs saying "Special Procedures. No Admittance".
Security wearing respirators there.
I get it.
I was ten feet from a hot spot, and potential morgue.
That moment changed everything for me. ...gave me a literal chill.
