I time shifted to November 3rd 1863 Nebraska. I did a portrait of white officers of the Colored detachment of the First Nebraska Volunteer Infantry.
I told them I was a Creole in the service of Mr. Matthew Brady. The official union photographer.
My tiny digital camera I said was from Switzerland. One remarked, “…of course they make such dandy watches.”
I was not allowed to photograph the Colored troops. These troops all told me they were recently Slaves.
I wondered if some of these men were of my family.
