"...extreme care"

On being a Black Time Traveler in America's past. One would have to pick the place year season time of day, and location with extreme care. Unlike pink temporal travelers that can bungle into any era anywhere any time, and more or less not get killed.

Colored temporal researchers have to have rather a lot more care. For example I could appear on the above street safely. 9th Avenue/53rd Street in NYC. It's November 18th 1930 9:00pm. I could wormhole there, and explore the area with minor cautions.

Then again the Court House steps in Jasper Mississippi at noon on Jefferson's Davis's birthday in 1926 might be a serious problem.
Walking while Black in any part of North America from 1609~AD thru roughly 2300~CE. This would be a life threatening though interesting adventure.

I'm thinking of spending the summer working on a science fiction story called "Black to the Future"
Sub-titled "Safety Precautions for the Black Time Traveler".

  1. Hey, this just in: a doctor was going home to her gated community where she lived for the past 8 years and got stopped for being a suspected criminal even though she pointed out the house she lived in. The confrontation lasted for 30 minutes. Oh... I forgot to mention... she is black. I guess she should be grateful she wasn't shot while going home!!!

  2. As I mentioned I was nearly shot dead by cops for walking home from the library while Black. I did say any Black Time Traveler would be taking their life in their hands by visiting "anywhere" in North America between roughly 1609~AD, and maybe 2300~CE.

Still thanks for the tip, but I do know what time it is.

Wyoming in 36,000~BC might be of interest however. I was always curious about the culture of the peoples of that time. What with they're still being somewhat fresh from Pan-Asia.

That, and unlikely to have ever heard Country Western music.

  3. 36,000 BC sounds good. Failing that, Ancient Rome might be OK, as long as you have plenty of the right kind of money and are properly dressed. Latin helps too.

A propos of nothing, does anyone remember 30s film star Freddie Bartholomew? I just found a good bio and collected a bunch of old film stills of him. Wonderful shots.

  4. Freddie was in a number of films major, and minor at the time. Seems he was the "IT BOY" with a number of producers of a certain interest.

  6. I found quite a few shots of Freddie and Spencer Tracy being very affectionate in “Captains Courageous,” almost as if they were an Item. I think they really liked each other - probably not in *that* way, but one can always imagine...
