Fire-escapes now Victory Gardens.
It's legalization was anti-climactic. At least for me.
It happened in the middle of so much chaos and mayhem.
It got lost in da deranged static.
A century of prohibition. For all the wrong reasons.
Perhaps now it'll return to being a medical aid.
As it was before we got all civilized.
What I read is that it was stomped out for DuPont. He wanted to unload some of his plastic tripe on the market and his products couldn’t compete with quality hemp. So his friend William Randolph Hearst ginned up a newspaper campaign against the Devil’s weed and about how degenerate jazz musicians got uppity miscegenistic ideas while smoking it, and so on. At least, that’s probably part of the story. Plus crazy puritans always need some devils to repress, and it was a handy target.
