"...2020"

Congressional Dems taking a knee over the George Floyd murder by cops.
This was one of the most mocked and despised images of 2020.
This by half the population of this republic. Which said how far we'd yet have to go.

*Over the years I've posted of all sorts of stuff that I thought were culture changing events. I was always wrong. I might have been about my post below. Too soon to tell. The piece from June 8th, 2020, is about the worldwide reaction to the George Floyd murder by cops. A routine American lynching of just another darkie...who cares.

Turned out the whole damned world did.

At least it did for about six months then forgot. More variations of COVID followed by popular resistance to the vaccines. A tanking economy. Then a European World War kicked everything off the front pages.

...and here we are.

Like I sez it's still too soon to tell if any good will come from any of this. It's like that when you're in the middle of history happening in real time. One needs years to digest what the fuck happened and if it did any good. Me I'm having ice cream today...it's the little things. So ...Once upon a time:

Democrats in the United States Congress Take a Knee.

In observing the spontaneous outbursts against American racism, and local ethnic chauvinisms around the world. I am amazed. Though a friend just said don't be because it's a worldwide experience now.
Recent years have seen the rise of nationalist parties' movements, and governments #45 is just the local manifestation.
Many reasons for this.
New technologies obliterating whole modes of employment...replacing these with nothing. The rise of an interconnected world. Perceived threats to primal nationalisms real or imagined. These sparking hostile movements of hatred.
Simultaneous with that there was the good people of the world horrified at this. It took years, but now these are making themselves heard. This awakening was perhaps bound to happen.
It just needed a trigger. This could have come in any of a hundred countries. Minnesota drew the short straw. That, and a routine American incident...a white cop calmly murdering an unarmed restrained black man. Ordinarily something for just one news cycle of interest.
This time it set a world on fire.
Could this be a culture changing event?
Plagues change things. The trauma of COVID around the world, and specifically in the States with our now near 110,000 dead. This trauma is having an effect none expected. It is bringing the possibility of primal change.
These are far more interesting times than any of us could have imagined on New Years Day 2020. We find ourselves in historic times. Stay safe be kind be smart...stay home as much as you can. If you march,...social distance as best you can.

* As I say the jury is still out on this whole era.
9/11 the rise of nationalisms Covid now a European World War. Interesting times.
