"...1962"

My FB friend Gary posted this image of NYC harbor in the summer of 1962. If I had a time machine I'd go back to 1962 for a short visit. Everybody I ever loved would still be with us. That or just born or about to be. Our Empire was at it's height! Good King John was on the Throne.

Evil laws, and customs were being overthrow.
We were sending up satellites everyday, and going to the Moon.
Also the Flintstones were in their first season as well as the Jetsons. Many had good jobs. We had the largest middle class of any society in history. The schools worked. They were segregated, but kids still learned to read write, and knew the world was not flat.

There was hope in the wind.
The next year it would end. The JFK hit then endless wars social chaos rising seas burning forests.
However for one moment there was hope in our country.

  1. JFK was no saint. He dramatically escalated the war in Vietnam and nearly started World War III when he blockaded Cuba. That's just for starters.

  2. WW-3 was an even match of madness. The Russians don't get a pass.
He did send troops to Vietnam, and then considered removing them. We'll never know if he really would have.
As for his sainthood. News flash...there ain't no such thing.

JFK from my point of view as a Negro kid in a segregated country. He was a hope. I guess ya had to be there. My folks thought so, and so did everyone we knew. I mean considering who we might have got...Nixon ring a bell.

As I say...no saint's around that I know of. Just people.
You look close enough you'll find fucked up shit in all of us. I don't know where this seeing mere elected wonks as having holiness came from. They all steal lie kill, and fuck anything in a skirt.

    However to the point.
I'd go back there rather than stay here. For one I wouldn't get shot by gangbangers for walking down the street. As for cops, and white people. By 12 which I was in 1962.
I knew how to deal with them. In the same way experienced fishermen knows about sharks.

  3. I'd take '62 over now any time. Sure, it sucked to be gay; but how much better is it now to be a BL? It's worse. And the best of the 60s was in front of us.

Who needs the president to be a saint? I'd be satisfied with basic competence, which is more than we've got now. Even most saints aren't all that saintly. Every idol has clay feet.

Everyone talks about how troubled the sixties and seventies were. Well, I enjoyed the fuck out of that period. The economy was gangbusters. Travel was easy and cheap for Americans. The world was a much freer place than it is now. There was no digitech spy technology listening and cyber-gawping at us in our bedrooms. It beat the crap out of now. I'd go back in a flash.

  4. Comics was .12 bleeping cents,...movies a fucking quarter. Housing, and food by 21st century standards was damned near free. Even adjusted for a thousand years of inflation a person on a regular income a working class family could live as what passes for upper-middle class now.

My dad was a baker, but bought a home sent all four of us to private school. We had a normal, and by todays standards secure even comfortable life. Something only the very highest levels of the upper middle class can have now.

    Yeah you kidding.
Go to an America where literacy was nearing 90%. Where evils were being overturned. We were going to the fucking actual stars the whole world admired even loved us despite all our evil fucked up shit.

Because compared to all the other dreary filthy murderous ant hills out there we were a fucking paradise. A place that had for real actual no bullshit Hope.

I'm near weeping just thinking of it.
That, and how we lost it. Lost all of it for good.
