Today the nuns, and lay teachers who humiliated, and beat us year after year with impunity would be arrested. However these disturbed persons that darkened the childhoods of whole generations got away with it.
Clean away.
They got their retirements, and went to their graves unjudged. We back then had to live lives marked by inexplicable random violence. The memory of this of our destroyed childhoods has cascaded down well into a new century.
It's possible these persons had no idea what they did was wrong. Brutality to children, and dogs being so ingrained in custom then.
Remember they still lynched Colored people during that time. So mere cruelty to children was a minor matter.
